Short Description: His real name was Subrahmanya and he was a contemporary of the Maratha raja of Tanjavur, Sarabhoji II (1798-1832).
Long Description: His real name was Subrahmanya and he was a contemporary of the Maratha raja of Tanjavur, Sarabhoji II (1798-1832). He belonged to Tirukkadavur, Tanjavur district, where there is a temple to Amrtaghatesvara and his consort Abhirami. (Amrtaghatesvara is another name of Siva who freed Markandeya from Yama, the god of death, and made him a ciranjivi, long-lived one.) Subrahmanya came to be called Abhiramibhatta because of his great devotion for Abhirami (Amba) which finds expression in his famous Abhirami Antadi.
