Short Description: Litteraly meaing, beautiful. The Tamils regard him as their god.
Long Description: The god whom the Tamils regard as their own, he is the same as Subrahmanya, Skanda (Kanda), Karttikeya or Kumara. (The name means beautiful.) There are many temples to Muruga in the South, some of them built on hills like Pazhani (Palni) and Tiruttani. A considerable section of Tamil hymnal literature is devoted to him of which the Tiruppugazh is particularly famous.
